Know Your Rights trainings are part of our effort to take a comprehensive approach to inform immigrants of their legal and civil rights, provide the tools to defend those rights, and engage communities to address the roots causes of immigration injustice. Hosted by immigrant religious congregations, the trainings explain constitutional rights and provide information to defend those rights when interacting with officials or the police. NSM collaborates with PhilaPOSH, an organization that works to ensure workplace health and safety, to create a joint training that includes constitutional rights for immigrants as well as workplace rights. The training is interactive and incorporates informative handouts, case studies, as well as a question and answer session with trainers and immigration lawyers.
Know Your Rights trainings are also an invitation for participants to engage NSM's campaigns to organize for immigrant justice.
Themes discussed in trainings:
- Constitutional Rights
- Defending ones rights when interacting with officials and police
- What to do if law enforcement (including ICE and the police) come to your home
- What to do if you are detained
- Work place rights
