Our Mission

New Sanctuary Movement of Philadelphia builds community across faith, ethnicity, and class in our work to end injustices against immigrants regardless of immigration status, express radical welcome for all, and ensure that values of dignity, justice, and hospitality are lived out in practice and upheld in policy.

Our Vision

We work together to bend the arc of the moral universe towards justice and transform our communities into a place where immigrants, families, friends, and neighbors are safe, respected, and welcomed; where economic, spiritual, and emotional wholeness are realized; and where borders and divisions disappear as we build a community welcoming to everyone. Read our 2017 Statement on Sanctuary.

Our member congregations form the backbone of our interfaith immigrant justice movement. Comprised of even numbers of immigrant and allied citizen faith communities, our member congregations participate in training, workshops, campaigns, and events, and accompany families facing deportation.

Our Staff

This broad-based grassroots movement is organized by a professional team that facilitates relationships across faith, ethnicity, and class. Click our photos to learn more about us.

Jody-Ann Norman

Communication Coordinator
English Speaker

Jody-ann is a single mother of a beautiful daughter and is originally from Jamaica and now lives in Philadelphia. She is a self-taught creative graphic designer passionate about creating any person, place, and thing into art. Her participation with NSM began when she was referred to NSM in the 2020 pandemic for help. Shortly after that, She was asked to join the Immigration Reform group to help with strategies to push for immigration reform for all. She was offered the opportunity to join NSM as the Communication Coordinator because her digital and creative skills are essential to this role. She has contributed to the work for immigrant rights in the U.S. She will sometimes be in the street taking photos and shooting videos or behind the scenes, helping NSM communicate all they do for the immigrant community. She connects with the Caribbean community and neighbors and shares relevant information related to immigration issues is vital to her community. She believes that God has a plan to guide us to success for all immigrants and everyone who needs our help. Her message: Things are difficult now, but there is a light at the end of every fight. So do not give up! Repeat four times: I will make it. NSM Welcomes everyone!

Priscila Flores

Development Coordinator
Spanish & English Speaker

Priscilla Flores was born and raised in California’s Central Valley and comes from a family of Mexican immigrant farmworkers. Her grandfather was a bracero from Michoacán, Mexico, and her grandmother was a proud UFW union member. Priscilla has a B.A. in History and English from UC Berkeley, and an M.A. in US History from the University of Chicago. Her initial introduction to fundraising work was when she was an undergrad and joined a student group working to assist undocumented high school students on scholarship applications so that they could have the financial resources to attend college. That experience allowed her to recognize how personally rewarding it was to raise funds for worthy causes. Prior to joining NSM, Priscilla helped raise funds for a youth development organization in Harlem, NYC, and Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage, a sustainable living intentional community in Northeast Missouri. Priscilla currently lives in an off-grid, six-acre BIPOC-centered homestead called “Pueblo Palmares” in rural Missouri with her daughter. She enjoys working together with her daughter to steward their land and introduce BIPOC folks to sustainable and off-grid living. She considers it a sincere honor to be able to live a life that allows her to work for social justice issues and practice sustainable living.
